There are many stories about computer bugs, dating back at least as when Edison used the term to describe technical problems. In his notebooks and letters from the 1870s, he used “bug” for faults in telegraph and telephone systems. For example, in an 1878 letter to Western Union’s president, Edison wrote: “You were partly correct, I did find a ‘bug’ in my apparatus“. Other stories emanate from  maintenance logs from early supercomputers that spanned city blocks where insects and rodents would cause havoc. The best documented account comes from name in 1947, who discovered a moth was creating a short circuit. She removed the moth and pasted it into her logo with a notation, and the problem was fixed.
